How to make powder type concealer/foundation look not so cakey?

My face seems to be cakey with powder. I put moisturizer already but doesnt help much.

Any other tips? How to make powder type concealer/foundation look not so cakey?
i use powder foundation, and i'm also a hairstylist/make-up artist.

there are a couple of ways to make it not so cakey.

make sure you use a face scrub once a week to remove your dead skin.

DO NOT, i repeat DO NOT use any type of soap for your face, face wash is preferred. face wash NOT soap.

then moisturize, if you have oily skin, use a water-based/oil free moisturizer, if you have dry skin, use an oil-based moisturizer so it balances out.

then....

1. find a foundation primer: what that will do is keep moisture locked in your skin and smooth out the imperfection on your skin. [i use one] and then apply foundation.

here are some brands.

a. smashbox - photofinish, $16

b. Perfekt Skin Perfection Gel To Go, $17.50

c. Bare Escentuals bareVitamins Prime Time, $21

all can be found at sephora.

OR

2. if you are using a sponge, try using a kabuki brush.it'll give it a softer finish.

hopefully these work.

i put on moisturiser then wait 2 or 3 minutes for it to slightly dry then..

i put a swipe of YSL Radiant Touch Concealer and use a clean sponge to dab and feather around dark spots

after that i use a sponge and a foundation that has very little oil like Max Factors Miracle Touch or Lancome Magique Mousse and i don't wipe i dab it evenly until it all blends in and use light layers, so i apply a very thin layer, then wait a bit then apply another light layer instead of adding chunks in one go, then in places where it is hard to blend like the eye brows and nose i feather the sponge around it so wipe the makeup smoothly and lightly in those places, i do the same with the jaw line, feathering it towards the neck so i don't get a foundation mask.

i use a mineral based powder, put a bit on the brush, then tap the brush lightly to get off excess, and just lightly feather it on around my face, don't use too much!

less foundation is always better
dont use powder foundation!

totally use a creamy concealer...

and follow up with a light foundation...

my exampes would be:

use any garnier moisterizer

then MAXFACTOR panstick as a concealer...

then COVERGIRL aqua smoother as a foundation...

follow it up with ALMAY ';nearly naked'; powder.

it sounds like alot...but use all in moderation and your skin will look

flawless.
is your skin oily?

wash your face with soap, preferably dove soap as its easy on the skin, and then apply some oil free moisteriser.

then apply your foundation :)
I would wash your face and use moisturizer and/or face makeup primer. After that it should look nicer to put on your makeup :)
Use a moisturizer first. I have acne prone skin, so I get a moisturizer with salicylic acid. Works great. :]
